Wayne Michael Gardner (born 11 October 1959) is an Australian former professional Grand Prix motorcycle and touring car racer. His most notable achievement was winning the 1987 500 cc Motorcycle World Championship, becoming the first Australian to win motorcycling's premier class. Marcel Schrötter übernahm am Start sofort das Kommando. In der zweiten Runde wurde er vom Australier Remy Gardner an Spitze abgelöst. Fortan folgte Schrötter dem Sohn des ehemaligen 500ccm Weltmeisters Wayne Gardner, bis sich in etwa zur Halbzeit der Distanz ein wilder Kampf um die Top-Spots entwickelte. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt übernahm Schrötter für einige Runden wieder die Führung, gefolgt von einer wilden Meute mit sechs Fahrern. Im letzten Renndrittel war der 26-jährige ständig in Positionskämpfe verwickelt, bei denen es gleich mehrere Male zu Berührungen kam und die seinen Rhythmus ruinierten.
